Nigerian Breweries Celebrates Teachers, Honours 3 For Outstanding Service (See details)

According to Brad Henry, “a good teacher can inspire hope, ignite imagination and instill love for learning.

No teachers, no future. A nation without teachers is heading for doom because teachers can either make or mar the future of a society. A teacher is a person whose importance cannot be over emphasized, a teacher is a vessel for development and the kind of teachers the  nation has, shows the kind of future within the nation. Culled from, infoguidenigeria.

No wonder, Nigerian Breweries Plc., –has consistently maintained it as a culture to celebrate teachers for their sacrifices to humanity.

Even recently, the company rolled out the drums to celebrate them for their roles in building a solid foundation for the development of the nation.

The event which has become an annual ritual, was used to present several millions of naira to some teachers for their resilience, dedication and sacrifices.

This gesture by Nigerian Breweries Plc has potentially rendered the popular saying among many Nigerians that “reward for teachers are in heaven,” irrelevant.

It also goes to show the company’s sensitivity to the very engine that holds the power of human development.

The company, through its Maltina Teacher of the Year Award (MTOY), is redefining teaching and learning in Nigerian schools.

It splashed millions of naira on teachers as a reward for their dedication and professionalism, renewing teachers’ passion and zeal for one of mankind’s oldest professions.

In this year’s edition, a teacher from Federal Government College, Jos, Alaku Ayiwulu, emerged winner of the 2022 Maltina Teacher of the Year Award.

Mr Ayiwulu, went home with a cash prize of N6.5 million from the Nigerian Breweries – Felix Ohiwerei Trust Fund.

Meanwhile, a Lifetime Leadership Achievement Award was also presented to the Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, who in turn presented a recognition award to the former Chairman of Nigerian Breweries, Felix Ohiwerei.

The teachers’ award was named after Ohiwerei, who was said to have contributed significantly to the success of the company while he held sway.

The event was witnessed by many dignitaries around Nigeria, including Vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, commended Nigerian teachers for their resilience, commitment and dedication, saying the reward of teachers is not in material worth but in the success of their products.

He reeled out a long list of his former students, which included a former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, other prominent politicians, legal scholars, and diplomats.

The Corporate Affairs Manager, Nigerian Breweries PLC, Iyom Joy Egolum, said the company had a lot of admiration and respect for teachers because of their investment in humanity, their sleepless nights and ability to nurture and care for the people.

According to Iyom Egolum, the company pays high premium on teachers and would sustain that part of social corperate responsibility initiatives.
