THE INSECURITY IN OUR DEAR TOWN

The distardly attack on my cousin, Chief Sunday Alike, in front of his residence, is unacceptable and contradicts “Udo Nri,” a key legacy of Nri civilization.

The level of insecurity in our community has gotten out of hand, due to the undesirable politics being played with Nri vigilante.

It is unfortunately true, to say that presently we have no organised security in Nri community due to the absence of effective vigilantee.

Armed robbery and such other violent crimes are now becoming the norm in the previously totally peaceful Nri.

The criminals, for months have gone to numerous houses, broken in and made away with valuables. These includes a POS operator, robbed at gunpoint, of millions of Naira.

We must protect lives and property
devoid of local politics and sentiments.

I have been financially and morally supporting the close-to-ineffective Nri vigilante, even as the Town Union inappropriately confiscated it from the Palace, this is a verifiable fact known to all.

In the interest of Nri Community may I use this opportunity to call upon our dear Governor, Prof Charles C. Soludo, as a matter of urgency to intervene in our security challenges and order that our vigilante apparatus be restored to the Palace as it is in other communities.

So as to enable me the Regent of Nri kingdom to engage the undesirable elements in our community more robustly with a view to restoring the peace & tranquility Nri is identified with through the ages.

To the youths and well meaning citizens of our dear ancient Nri kingdom, be rest assured that it is inappropriate to continue to live in fear and uncertainty and yet keep quiet. If you see something wrong, speak up for SILENCE IS THE ENEMY OF PEACE AND PROGRESS.

Be rest assured that I can protect & foster the identity, peace and progress of Nri community, as always.

Prince Ikenna Onyesoh
(Idebuteaku)
Regent of Nri.
