The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended the mastermind of an attack on a police post in Okija, March this year that led to killing of two police men. This was made known by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Echeng Echeng while playing host to the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 13 Ukpo, Umar Mauri.
The suspect according to Mr. Echeng was arrested with three of his men by police operatives on August 31, 2022.
The Police Commissioner while welcoming the AIG to the Command in Awka, thanked him for constant support, guidance, advice and encouragement which he had always provided for the command to help them in the discharge of their duties.
Mr Echeng reported that the security situation in the area has continued to improve with establishment of forward Operating Bases in synergy with the military and other security agencies stemming the tide of wanton brigandage of so called unknown gunmen.
He went on to say that the command places a lot of premium on capacity building to boost the capability of the officers and men to confront security challenges in the area.
Addressing some senior police officers under the command, the AIG, Mr Muri who was on a working visit, commended them for the high level of professionalism, commitment and loyalty they exhibited during the period the unknown gunmen unleashed terror on police formations and other government facilities within the state.
He said Anambra State has been able to curtail the monster and menace of the unknown gunmen through the untiring effort of the officers and men in checkmating the activities of the criminal elements and the sacrifices they made towards the success of ‘Operation Restore Peace’ established by the Inspector General of Police.
Mr. Muri took time to highlight the laudable efforts being made by the IGP and his management team to improve the welfare and service conditions of police personnel which included implementation of new salary structure approved by President Muhamadu Buhari, timely promotion to deserving officers and men of the Nigeria Police among others.
He charged officers and men to maintain a high level of discipline as it is the bedrock of the force.
