Court Jails Corps Member

A corps member serving in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Adetuberu Adetoyese, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment over Internet fraud-related offenses by Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court.

Mr. Adetoyese was arrested at Ogele, a suburb of Ilorin last week Wednesday by operatives of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), while acting on a tip-off relating to activities of Internet fraudsters within Ilorin metropolis.

The court, Thursday, found the 28-year-old corp member guilty of the
offenses of cybercrime preferred against him by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Counsel to the EFCC, Sesan Ola, while in court revealed that the convict had in the course of the investigation, admitted that he ventured into Internet fraud otherwise known as Yahoo Yahoo in 2016 and had used proceeds obtained from the illegal activities to build a house.

Mr. Adetoyese pleaded guilty to the two charges preferred against him when he was brought before the Court on Thursday.

Justice Yusuf, while reading the sentence ordered the forfeiture of a three-bedroom flat acquired with the proceeds of the illegal activities, a Lexus car, different brands of phones, and a laptop, which are instruments of the crime as well as the sum of N921, 535.49 in his bank account to the Federal Government.

He was however given an option of a fine of N200,000.
