By: Christian Nwangene

ENUGU—The senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Enugu East Senatorial District, Princess Ada Ogbu, says the new electoral law will guarantee credible polls and encourage voters to participate in the process.

Speaking during a radio programme in Enugu, “The Parliament,” Princess Ogbu, said the bill had provided opportunity for the people to challenge the current political system where no powerful opposition had challenged the dominant political party in Enugu state, adding that the 2023 election would change the monopoly.

According to Princess Ogbu, the new law contains many progressive provisions that would facilitate the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria.

Adding that “the solution to the question of what would change for Enugu to start having election has already been found and implemented by the improvements of the electoral act.

“People now believe that they can have trust in the electoral body.

“The game-changer is the E-transmission of results, the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

“People’s power are really coming back. We have this surge in registration. People were registering even till the last minute because they now believe that they have power now. I believe that monopoly will be broken come 2023. The individual, not the party stands supreme,” the APC senatorial candidate remarked.

Princess Ogbu also spoke on what she would do for Enugu East if elected into the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.

“I am going in there not only to represent Enugu East Senatorial Zone, but to remain the voice of my district both at the National Assembly and in terms of development of our zone, and welfare of my people.

“As a Senator, I will prioritize job opportunities for my people and continue to look for opportunities that would favour them.

“Let me say this: “sometimes it will only take simple courtesy and availability of information to get some of these things done; like knowing that there are available job vacancies as well as grants; these are vital and I will definitely be in the position to secure some of them to empower my people,” she said.

Princess Ogbu lamented absence of projects in her district, noting that those who had occupied the seat in the past and currently had not given the people quality representation in terms of attracting development projects.

“There is no constituency project in my zone, not even one and this is the reason I’m in the race to change the narrative,” Princess Ogbu stated.
